CEDAW GR 30: “Menstrual Discrimination — A Dormant but Critical Gap in the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda”
The Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation (GSCDM) is proud to announce the successful submission of its report titled “Menstrual Discrimination: A Dormant but Critical Gap in the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda” to the CEDAW Committee’s General Recommendation 30 consultation.
This submission marks a historic milestone in global advocacy, positioning menstrual discrimination as a root cause of gender stereotypes, systemic inequalities, and patriarchal power structures that perpetuate conflict and injustices worldwide.
Through this document, GSCDM urges the CEDAW Committee to recognize menstrual discrimination as a core driver of inequality, conflict, and exclusion—a missing dimension within the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda.
The report highlights:
- How menstrual discrimination shapes and sustains power hierarchies globally.
- The need to integrate Dignified Menstruation within all peacebuilding, SRHR, climate, and humanitarian frameworks.
- The call to officially endorse December 8 as International Dignified Menstruation Day within the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
This milestone reflects the GSCDM’s ongoing commitment to amplifying the voices of menstruators globally and ensuring that menstrual dignity is recognized as fundamental to human rights, peace, and security.
