Incorporated Dignified Menstruation, decolonized pain’ in Critical Approaches to Pain Scholarship (CAPS) Network and Social Sciences Endometriosis Network (SEEN)
Radha Paudel, Founder- Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation (GSCDM) presented her paper entitled `Incorporated Dignified Menstruation, decolonized pain’ in Critical Approaches to Pain Scholarship (CAPS) Network and Social Sciences Endometriosis Network (SEEN) co-hosted Conference The University of Manchester, United Kingdom September 24-26, 2026.
`My country, Nepalis never ever colonize but our knowledge is, she started her presentation with this statement. At the name of funds or opportunity, friends from UK and global north go to Nepal and global south and colonized pain related with menstruation, menopause, endometriosis, PMOS etc. without touching the facts about menstruation, defining menstrual discrimination and appealing dignified menstruation. Such discriminatory menstrual practices reinforce and reproduce discrimination associated with menstrual pain, she highlighted. GSCDM defined menstrual discrimination as broad ranges of menstrual perceptions and practices and develop a concept of dignified menstruation in order to eliminate all forms of menstrual discrimination for achieving overarching goal of equality, inclusion and smash the patriarchy. She forwarded three bottom line principles to decolonized menstrual pain and entire menstrual movement and key steps which have been tested and re-tested in various platforms in Nepal and beyond through the GSCDM channels. Since 6 years is an average global age of over 10,000 participants in last 10 years from over 50 countries from all around the globe, which indicates serious needs to incorporate messages around dignified menstruation for 6 years or grade one. Radha ended her presentation by reciting the song which is been using through GSCDM in various schools and forums; M from Menstruation (म बाट महिनावारी, चलिरहेछ संसार भएर महिनावारी).
